    1. Preheat the oven to 375 °F (190 °C). Grease a muffin tin and set it aside.
    2. Cut the apples in half, remove the core, then slice them very thinly. Place the apple slices in a bowl, drizzle with lemon juice, and gently mix.
    3. Microwave the apples 3–4 minutes, until soft and pliable but not mushy. Let cool slightly.
    4. Unroll the puff pastry and cut each sheet into 6 equal strips
    5. Brush each strip with apple jelly.
    6. Lay the apple slices along the top of each strip, with the peel side up, slightly overlapping them. Fold the bottom edge of the pastry up over the apples.
    7. Carefully roll each strip into a rose shape and place each rose in the muffin tin.
    8. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the pastry is golden and fully cooked. If the apples brown too quickly, loosely cover with foil toward the end
    9. Let the apple roses cool slightly, then dust with icing sugar before serving.

FAQ – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE COOKING

Can I make apple roses ahead of time?

Yes. Apple roses can be assembled a few hours in advance and kept covered in the refrigerator until ready to bake. For best results, bake them the same day to maintain a crisp, flaky puff pastry.

What type of apples are best for apple roses?

Red apples with firm flesh such as Gala, Honeycrisp or Pink Lady are ideal. They keep their shape during baking and give the roses their signature colour.

Why do the apples need to be microwaved first?

Microwaving softens the apple slices, making them flexible and easier to roll without breaking. This step helps create a clean, rose-like shape.

Can I use something other than puff pastry?

Puff pastry is essential for this recipe. All-butter puff pastry, like Cool&Simple, ensures proper lift, flakiness and structure. Other doughs will not give the same result.

How do I know when apple roses are fully baked?

The puff pastry should be golden brown and fully cooked, including the bottom layers. If the apples brown too quickly, loosely cover with foil near the end of baking.
